Krishan Kant meets Chandrika
Nirupama Subramanian
COLOMBO, OCT. 14. The Vice-President of India, Mr. Krishan Kant,
who led a 15-member delegation to the funeral of late Srimavo
Bandarnaike, later met and held discussions with the Sri Lankan
President, Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga.
The discussions, lasting over half-an-hour, revolved around
bilateral ties, a statement from the Indian High Commission here
said.
``The Vice-President paid rich tributes to the vision of social
unity which President, Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga, has been
working for. He also linked India's Independence struggle and
ethos of pluralism with the initiatives being taken for social
cohesion in Sri Lanka,'' the statement added.
Mr. Kant, who arrived this morning, returned to India late
tonight after attending the funeral at the Bandaranaikes'
ancestral home in Horagolla, 40 km from here.
