Rs. 3.25 cr. released for calamity relief
By Our Staff Correspondent
HASSAN, OCT. 16. The State Government has released Rs. 3.25
crores as the first installment for natural calamity relief works
in eight districts affected by the recent spell of heavy rains.
More funds will be released next week after complete damage
assessment reports are received from the Deputy Commissioners
concerned, Mr. H.C. Srikantaiah, Revenue Minister, has said.
He told presspersons here that Rs. 50 lakhs each had been
released for Mandya, Hassan, Raichur and Gulbarga, Rs. 45 lakhs
for Koppal, Rs. 30 lakhs for Mysore and Rs. 25 lakhs each for
Chitradurga and Davangere districts. The funds would be utilised
for repairing breached tanks and houses which had collapsed, he
said. The State had requested the Centre for financial
assistance. Separate funds would have to be allocated for road
repairs through the Minor Irrigation and Public Works
departments, he said and added that funds earmarked for natural
calamity relief could not be diverted or utilised for road
repairs.
Asked about achievements of the Revenue Department in the past
year, he said computerisation was in progress. On account of land
resurvey work ordered in Maddur taluk, it had been dropped from
the centrally- sponsored model scheme to computerise all
government departments there. Instead, Yadgir and Channarayapatna
taluks had been selected.
