By Our Staff Correspondent

MADIKERI, OCT. 16. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the State and from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh are expected to take part in the annual "teerthodbhava" at Talacauvery in Kodagu District at 12.31 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister, Mr. S.M.Krishna, is likely to participate in the event. He is also expected to lay foundation stones for a few projects in Talacauvery and Bhagamandala.

The Deputy Commissioner, Ms. M.V.Jayanti, is personally supervising the preparations for the occasion. Supply of clean drinking water, construction of temporary toilets at Bhagamandala and Talacauvery and health facilities are being ensured. Special buses, both private and KSRTC, have started plying from all parts of the district to Talacauvery from Monday. The parking areas of buses and roads have been spruced up for the occasion.

Places for tonsuring and changing of clothes after a dip at the sangam at Bhagamandala have been set up for the benefit of pilgrims. Stalls selling pooja items have been instructed not to charge more than the prescribed fee from them. Bhagamandala and Talacauvery have been illuminated. Music programmes have been organised.

Several organisations such as the Kodagu Ekikarana Ranga, Kodava Samaja and individuals will provide free food packets to the pilgrims. Sale of liquor, meat and fish have been banned during the jatra by the district administration.

Police are taking all precautions to ensure peace during the jatra. Adequate police force is being deployed, parking and traffic arrangements streamlined, especially in view of the Chief Minister's proposed visit. The helipads at Bhagamandala and the Field Marshal K.M.Cariappa College have been kept ready for the landing of the Chief Minister's helicopter.
