Engelhard's expanded facility on stream
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, OCT. 19. The expanded catalytic converter making
facility of Engelhard Environmental Systems (India) Limited
(EESIL) at Maraimalai Nagar has gone on stream.
Disclosing this, Mr. K. Krishnamurthy, Managing Director of
EESIL, told presspersons here yesterday that the fully integrated
plant, which started production in 1998, was now capable of
producing 3.5 lakh automotive catalytic units per annum, as well
as an additional one million catalytic converters for two-wheeler
application.
He said the company invested Rs. 20 crores in the first phase and
another Rs. 4 crores in the second phase. This helped to expand
the facility to more than 20,000 sq ft, including manufacturing
space, a state-of-the-art laboratory and offices. Mr.
Krishnamurthy said by importing raw materials the company was in
a position to customise the catalytic converter. The company
produced one lakh catalytic converters and it would achieve 90
per cent of the total installed capacity by end of 2002.
He said the catalytic converter market was at five lakh units
annually and was expected to double by 2005. Engelhard
Environment Systems was a 70:30 joint venture company of
Engelhard Corporation and UCAL Fuel Systems.
