Quite a few in the fray


MORE THAN half a dozen Tamil films are to be released this Deepavali.

R. K. Celluloid's ``Thenali'' has Kamal Haasan and a multi-star cast including Jothika, Devayani, Jayaram, Meena, Delhi Ganesh, Ramesh Khanna and Abdul Hameed. Director K. S. Ravi Kumar himself has taken on a small role. It is a humorous story of a doctor and his patient. The film directed by K. S. Ravi Kumar has dialogues by `Crazy' Mohan.

The music is by A. R. Rahman and the film is produced by R. Karpagam. Two songs have been picturised in New Zealand and a song was recorded in London. A major portion of the re-recording was done in the U.S., by A. R. Rahman.

``This character is a challenge to my acting talent and it is sure to take the hero Vijay also to great heights'', says Simran about the film ``Piriyamanavalae'' produced under the banner of Geetha Chitra International. The story is about a young man, Vijay, who has imbibed Western culture because of his long stay abroad but is married to a girl to whom the Indian culture is very dear.

Because of this, conflict arises and the film shows whether they overcome it or not. Vijay, Simran, Radhika Chowdry, S. P. Balasubramaniam, Vivek, Vaiyapuri, Ramji, and Indu are in the cast. Camera is handled by R. Selva and music is scored by S. A. Raj Kumar. A song is sung by Vijay and a couple of songs and a few scenes were shot in New Zealand, Australia and Switzerland. The story is by Boopathi Raja and the screenplay, dialogue and direction have been taken care of by K. Selvabharathi. The film is produced by C. Venkataraju and C. Sivaraju.

``Piriyadha Varam Vendum'' is a beautifully picturised love story and the lead stars are Prashanth and Shalini. Both of them are in college and soon find that they are in love. This story is woven with interesting incidents and is directed by Kamal. He has directed 23 films in Malayalam and his success rate at the box office is high with, 22 of them doing exceedingly well.

This film is also a remake of his Malayalam hit ``Niram''. The film's major portion has been shot in and around the Christ college in Kerala. Manivannan, Janakaraj, Vaiyapuri, Manorama, Ambika, Kovai Sarala, `and Nizhalgal' Ravi are the other artistes in the film. The music is scored by S. A. Raj Kumar and story, screenplay and direction are by Kamal.

Produced by Manickam Narayanan of Seventh Channel ``Seenu'' is a film by P. Vasu who has also done a lead role in it. A remake of the Mohanlal starrier ``Bharatham'' this film is a story of two brothers who do not quarrel all. The elder brother tries his best to reform his sibling. P.Vasu, the director, has acted as the elder brother of Karthik. Malavika, Janakaraj, Vivek, Sathyapriya are the others in the cast. Music is scored by Deva, camera is handled by Vijay, lyrics are written by Vaali and the film is directed by P. Vasu for producer Manickam Narayanan.

It is a dual role for Prabhu in K.B. Films ``Vannathamizh Paattu''. Radha Ravi and Anandaraj are against love marriage. What they do when their two sisters love two different individuals and how the problem is solved by Prabhu the senior and junior form the rest of the story.

Five songs are tuned in by S. A. Rajkumar. The lyrics are written by Vaali. Prabhu has acted as both father and son. Vyjayanthi, Mani Chandana, Radha Ravi, Anandaraj, Ravi Raj and Thyagu are also in the cast. Story, screenplay, dialogues and direction are by P. Vasu. The film is produced by M. Krishnasamy.

Pankaj Production ``Kannukku Kannaga'' has a family oriented subject. The hero Murali does everything for his sister Devayani. What she does for the hero in return is told with poignancy in the film. The other stars are Charuhasan, Vindhiya, Vadivelu and Anumohan. Dialogues are written by Manoharan, music is scored by Deva, cinematography is handled by Thankar Bhachan and story, screenplay and direction have been taken care of by S. Dayalan. The film is produced by Henry.

P.A. Art Productions ``Rishi'' which is directed by Sunder C. has Sarath Kumar in a dual role. How Sarath Kumar is penalised for all the wrongs committed by his look-alike is the essence of the film. It is a comedy film which has lots of action . Sarath Kumar, Arunpandian, S. S. Rajendran, Prakash Raj, Ramesh Khanna, Delhi Ganesh, Madan Bob, Meena and Sanghavi make up the cast.

The story and screenplay are by Panchu Arunachalam, dialogues are written by A. Jeevagan, music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the film is produced by Meena Panchu Arunachalam. ``Snegithiye'' by director Priyadharsan, and a couple of other films are also to be released on the eve of Deepavali.

Arjun, Prakash Raj and Manivannan who are from different villages end up in Mussouri, a training centre for IAS and IPS officers. Their problems and conflicts form the backdrop of Guru films ``Vanavil''. Lakshmi, Visu, S. P. Balasubramaniam and new-find Abirami are also in cast. Deva has taken care of the music and Karthic Raja has handled the camera.

The picture has been shot in Mussouri, Agra, Hyderabad, Vizag, Arakku Valley, Goa, Mysore, Ooty and Gobichettypalayam. The dialogues are by N. Raghu. The story, screenplay, direction are by Manoj Kumar, who is also the producer of the film.
