Draws the order of the day

JAMSHEDPUR, OCT. 21. International Master Tejas Bakre of Indian Airlines drew with Sriram Jha of LIC to keep up his one point lead after the 11th round of the Tata Steel 38th National `B' chess championship here on Saturday.

IM K. Murugan of Tamil Nadu almost assured himself of a place in the next National `A' outplaying seasoned campaigner K.V. Shantharam of Bank Sports Board. With this win Murugan joined three others - Jha, Saptarishi Roy Chowdhury and Lanka Ravi - on 8.5 points.

Seven players are on eight points followed by a bunch of 22 hopefuls on 7.5. Players with 9.5 are expected to make take the top 12 slots.

The day was marred by draws in spite of many hard fought games. As a result, only five out of top 15 tables came in with decisive results.
