S.A.-New Zealand match abandoned
POTCHEFSTROOM (SOUTH AFRICA), OCT. 21. The first one-day
International between New Zealand and South Africa at
Potchefstroom was abandoned with South Africa on 191 for two
wickets when rain came down for the second time.
After a first delay of 1hr 15mins, play resumed and pinch-hitter
Nicky Boje reached his 100 from just 89 balls that included
eleven 4s.
But the heavens opened a second time and the players had to
return to the pavilion - with the host on 191 for two wickets.
Unbeaten were Boje on 105 (93 balls) and Jacques Kallis on eight.
Boje shared a second-wicket stand of 129 with Free State
provincial teammate Boeta Dippenaar, who was out for 57 shortly
before the rain started to fall.
New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming sent South Africa in on a
good pitch, citing the possibility of a thunderstorm or dew
affecting the side fielding second in the day-night game.
