Medical admissions go online
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, DEC. 9. The drudgery of long queues and painful
procedures of admission into medical colleges have been
completely eliminated from this year what with the introduction
of a comprehensive online admission procedure.
A special software prepared by the National Informatics Centre
(NIC) is being used in the medical admissions of this year
currently on at Gandhi Medical College here. The software eases
work load on counselling officers who have to go through the
complexities of admissions like caste reservations, local area
reservations, Government college, private colleges, free seats
and paid seats.
The entire process of registration, seat selection, counselling
and finally seat allocation are fully computerised by an online
interactive software. Students now find it pretty easy to choose
the college of their choice and the category of the seat as the
availability position is displayed on the computer right in front
of them.
For the candidates waiting for their turn, the seat allocation is
being displayed through televisions inside the campus and the
large screen projectors inside the auditorium. Despite sitting
outside, they are well aware of the seat position and can plan
their choice much earlier. ``It saves lot of time apart from
reducing the anxiety of students and parents on the availability
of seats. Now, they can enter the admission hall well prepared,''
pointed out, Prof. Shyam Sunder, Vice-Chancellor, NTR Health
University.
Mr. C.S.R. Prabhu, State Informatics Officer, said 12 computers
are being used for the counselling and five students can take
admission at a time.
