YSR move baffles Cong. men

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, DEC. 13. Congress circles here are baffled at the manner in which the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), Dr.Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, withdrew public interest litigation against the Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrababu Naidu.

The nine writ petitions that Dr. Reddy withdrew from the High Court yesterday relate to allegations of corruption and abuse of power by the Chief Minister. The CLP leader justified it as ``a strategic move'' but did not elaborate.

None of party leaders has however chosen to comment on the development. Dr. Reddy's adversaries in the party, however, are furious. ``It is a loss of face for the party. The withdrawal of cases would amount to giving a clean chit to Mr. Naidu,'' said a senior leader on the condition of anonymity.

``It is for Dr. Reddy to explain,'' the CLP deputy leader, Mr. J.C. Diwakar Reddy, remarked curtly.

The APCC president, Mr.M. Satyanarayana Rao, is away in Delhi. The CLP leader, now on a tour of Cuddapah district, is expected explain his point of view on the withdrawal of the writ petitions on his return to the city on Thursday.
