GATI ties up with Maldives Post
By Our Corporate Reporter
CHENNAI, DEC. 14. The Rs. 250 crore retail express company, GATI,
has entered into a tie up with Maldives Post, an autonomous body
with 200 branches across the Republic of Maldives. An agreement
to this effect was signed here today by Mr. M. K. Agarwal,
Managing Director, GATI, and Mr. Mohamed Shihab, Managing
Director, Maldives Post. GATI had earlier tied up with Bhutan
Post.
Addressing presspersons, Mr. Agarwal said the tie up was another
milestone in the direction of our service network expansion plan
to SAARC countries. It would also boost trade between the two
nations besides opening the door for faster, safe and committed
delivery of shipments ranging from documents to commercial
packages.
GATI is setting up a hub in Tiruvanandapuram as part of its
infrastructure development to facilitate the shipment movement,
he said.
GATI will door deliver all Maldives Post shipments in India and
in return Maldives Post will facilitate the shipments delivery in
all inhabited islands of Maldives. The shipments now can be
booked from Maldives to any destination in India and all other
SAARC countries.
``We are going to have a tie up with all the six members of SAARC
countries, Mr. Agarwal said and added that ``We are planning to
expand our network in Bangladesh and Pakistan in the immediate
future.''
Mr. Mohamed Shihab said the Maldives Post would provide complete
solution from customs clearance to distribution of shipments at
the desk in Maldives.
GATI, which operates from 340 branches and has a service network
of 1,300 locations across the nation, has own offices in Sri
Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.
