Colourful decorations for Christmas
CRAFT BOUTIQUES and shops all over the city are bright with the
colour and glitter of handcrafted Christmas decorations, baubles,
toys and special gifts. The choice of festive decorations to
dress up Christmas trees, fill up stockings and decorate the home
is enticing, ranging from Etikopakka lacquerware bells to
imaginative Chennapatna toys, colourful stuffed toys, Santas and
clowns, beaded flowers and twinkling stars, loveliest of silk
roses, animal glove puppets and much more.
Dakshinachitra says it in the traditional colours of Christmas:
red, green and black. With an array of prettily painted bells,
baubles and candles in Christmas colours and neatly woven red and
green palmyra boxes to pack gifts. The festive colour coding
echoes in pretty Etikopakka toys, boxes, coasters and bangles, in
sets of table napkins, beautifully shaped candles, etc. Other
craft gifts on display at the Dakshinachitra Craft Shop are tiny
kalchuttie spice boxes, exquisitely crafted silk flowers and
Plaster of Paris icons such as Jesus, Mary.
`Crafts and Weaves' celebrates the spirit of Christmas with
colourful paper stars and bells, ingeniously shaped candles in
bright colours, golden hued `sikki' grass gift boxes and a range
of Etikopakka and Chennapatna bells and toys. And `Ambience'
reflects the mood of joy and festivity in their collection of
handcrafted blown glass bells, wrought iron and glass lamps,
candle stands and candles in very contemporary shapes.
`Manasthala's' Christmas tree glitters with Chennapatna Santas
and Etikopakka bells, bead ornaments, animals and birds from
Gujarat, stuffed coloured and toys and an amazing array of
beautiful handcrafted glove puppets of birds and animals! The
sale of handcrafted Christmas decorations will be on at
Dakshinachitra (East Coast Road, Muttukadu), Ambience (Bheemanna
Garden Road, Abhiramapuramm), Crafts and Weaves and Manasthala (6
Cenotaph Road, Alwarpet), till the end of the month.
