Another term for Haryana PCC chief

By Rajesh Ahuja

CHANDIGARH, DEC. 14. Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, was today elected ``unopposed'' as Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president for a second term in the absence of any other nominations. The directive for Mr. Hooda's renomination come from the party supremo, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. However, Mr. Hooda's arch-rivals, Mr. Bhajan Lal and Mr. Birender Singh, were conspicuous by their absence at the anointment here this afternoon.

The meeting was convened by the Returning Officer, Mrs. Sukhbans Kaur Bhinder, but was being viewed by Mr. Hooda's enthusiastic supporters as more of a formality to declare Mr. Hooda elected rather than an ``election.'' The nearly 150 delegates, including Mr. Bhajan Lal and Mr. Birender Singh, had earlier passed an unanimous resolution leaving the choice of a new president to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.
