Rajasthan varsities to centralise admission

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR, DEC. 14. All the Universities in Rajasthan will have Centralised admissions at the graduate and post-graduate levels from the next academic session. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting here of the Coordination Committee of Vice- Chancellors of the State presided over by the Chancellor and Governor, Mr. Justice Anshuman Singh.

The meeting on Wednesday decided that the process of admissions should be completed within the stipulated time in future so that the classes could start by July 10. A high-level committee, headed by the Higher Education Secretary, Mr. S.N.Thanvi and the Vice-Chancellors of the Rajasthan University and the Jainarain Vyas University, was appointed to remove the hurdles, if any, in Centralised admissions. The committee has been asked to prepare its suggestions by January 31.

Mr. Justice Anshuman Singh told the Vice-Chancellors of the five Universities and two agricultural Universities to discuss the draft Bill for the Universities, prepared in the past by the Dr. N.R.Bhasin committee and provide him with feed-back. The Bill is expected to be taken up in the Assembly during the next Budget session.

The Coordination Committee meeting, attended by the Higher Education Minister, Dr. C.P. Joshi, the Chief Secretary, Mr. Indrajeet Khanna, and other Secretaries concerned, felt there should be a unified effort on the part of the academicians to bring about a qualitative change in higher education in the State. A good beginning could be made if the Universities could stick to the scheduled calendar of admissions.

The Committee members opined that if the students were told at the beginning of the academic year when the examinations would be held and the results would be available, it would help them plan their academic future.Mr. Justice Anshuman Singh expressed concern over the posts lying unfilled in various Universities and asked them to be filled by December 31.
