A statement of fact
Sir, - What the BJP leader, Mr. K. R. Malkani, said about the
offer of the King of Nepal to accede to India is cent per cent
correct. Addressing a public meeting organised by the All India
Students Congress in Chennai on December 24, 1962, Mr. V. K.
Krishna Menon remarked that if, instead of Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru, Sardar Patel had been the Prime Minister, the latter would
have unhesitatingly accepted the offer and the small gain would
have resulted in a big loss. The second point to be noted is that
the BJP Government is pleased to distance itself from Mr.
Malkani's ``views'' and not from his ``statement of fact''.
