Entertainment `galatta'

THIS IS one website actually yielding revenue from an ad-based system even as other websites are searching elsewhere. Even as content is looked upon as an outdated web strategy, their thrust is on quality information. For them, the Internet is one big galata.

It is a film-based entertainment channel. Its net spreads across most districts in the State. Galatta.com might just be rewriting the script.

The website's thrust is on filmy fun. ``Some of my team, less than a year old, are now experts on cinema,'' says Mr. Girish Ramdas, CEO, galatta.com.

What the site does is package the film industry. So you have here the official websites of Prakash, Jyotika and others. And Girish wants Kamal and Rajni too.

They have weekly chat sessions with the stars. And ``for authenticity sake,'' the chats are recorded on camera.

Include film spoofs, behind-the-scenes goof ups, previews, reviews, gigs and official film websites... you have the industry. ``Go to any regular search engine and key in `Ennavale', you will have galatta.com on the top of the list,'' says Girish. Which is a key strength for the website.

So even if surfers do not go to Galata.com directly, the film websites are part of the network.

Looking for pictures of your favourite stars, the site's got the originals, some from the stars themselves.

Want screensavers, say of Thenali, the websites give them in active mode, music and all. You can even have pictures of your stars as the icons.

But films apart, galatta.com has websites from Kanyakumari.com to Singarachennai.com. These sport a host of information on these places from hotels to tourist spots. And all supported by the site. They also have games, spoofs, emails and a host of general information.

``It's a dotcom that actually works,'' says Girish. galatta.com is having fun.
