PM's statement will fool no one: Cong.
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI JAN. 4. The Congress today joined issue with the Prime
Minister on his musings from Kerala, by terming it as an exercise
``obfuscation which would fool no one''.
The senior party leader and CWC member Mr. Ahmed Patel, accused
the Prime Minister of indulging in doublespeak and trying to
mislead the people on the sensitive issue. ``The Prime Minister
cannot adopt five different positions, he should be
categorical,'' he said.
Unconvinced by the Prime Minister's ``protestations of
innocence'', Mr. Patel said Mr. Vajpayee could merely disown
responsibility by simply giving a statement. The VHP and the
Bajrang Dal have made their intentions clear. The Prime Minister
must act decisively, people are not going to be taken in by his
statements anymore, he said.
The party appeared to view Mr. Vajpayee's statement as a part of
the Sangh Parivar's two pronged strategy to keep both the
liberals as well as the hardliners happy.
