Spectacular show of human chain

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JAN. 8. A spectacular human chain along the 10-km route traversed by the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, in Hyderabad and similar versions in the rest of the State and dedication pledge by the people featured the grand finale to the 14th phase of Janmabhoomi on Monday.

Enthused by the `tremendous response' to the week-long programme, a beaming Mr. Chandrababu Naidu told reporters later it would be his constant endeavour to streamline it to make the people own it and to achieve Swarnandhra Pradesh. Over 1,200 official teams organised gram sabhas in 26,000 plus villages or municipal wards, free health and veterinary camps and distributed Rs 770-cr worth of assets to 43,000 beneficiaries during the week. Special activities were also taken up for farmers during this `Rythu Janmabhoomi' apart from release of Rs. 30 crores to nearly one lakh beneficiaries.

The human chain from Gandhi statue in Secunderabad to the Charminar was clearly the show-stopper of the day in which an estimated one lakh school children, teachers and Government employees participated.

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu rode in an open jeep, accompanied by two schoolgirls and 4 boys, as schoolkids, sporting Janmabhoomi caps and flags, lined on both sides of the road and cheered them.

Also on hand were motorcycle outriders, joined near the Gulzar Houz by ornately dressed mounted police.
