Semifinal matches remain open

VADODARA, JAN. 8. The semifinal matches between India Blues and Monotona and Well Knit and Indian Railways in National bridge championship remained open at the half way stage of 64 board match.

In the first match India Blues (Ashok Ruia, J.M. Shah, B. Prabhakar, R. Krishnan and K.V. Krishnamurthy) established a lead of 28 IMP. over Monotona (Dipak Poddar, M. Athavle, B.G. Ogle, S. Chokshi, K. Anklesaria and A. Anklesaria) at the end of 32 boards.

In the first segment Monotona Bombay took a lead of 9 IMP. (35- 26). But the story was different in the second session when India Blues also from Mumbai went up by 28 IMP after neutralising the first session deficit of 9 IMP. In this session India Blues score was 10 out of 16 boards.

In the second match, Well Knit from Chennai (C. R. Badrinath, S. Sunderram, P. Sridhar, K. Krishnakumar, N.R. Kirubakara Murthy and C. Rangarajan) was locked with Indian Railway `A' (S. Bhattacharjee, P. Kushari, M. Mukherjee, A. Mukherjee, S. Roy and R. Roy).

In the first segment, Well Knit was leading with 27 IMP (47-20). But in the second session, Railway neutralised 17 IMP (30-13) reducing its lead to 10 IMP leaving the match wide open (50-60).

Earlier in the quarterfinal Indian Railway defeated Gupta Bangalore by 99 IMP. (202-103), India Blues set aside a strong challenge thrown by Gujarat BA. (133-103), Monotona knocked out SCPCC by 51 IMP (143- 92) and Well Knit swamped Trambok Rubber by 70 IMP (142-72).
