MUL hikes prices
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN 10. Maruti Udyog Ltd. (MUL) has hiked the prices
of its various models by 0.3 to 2.5 per cent with immediate
effect. It attributes the increase to higher cost of raw
materials and other inputs in the last quarter. Depreciation of
the rupee too has led to the cost increase. The company claimed
only a part of the increase has been passed on to the customer.
The company's main stay - Maruti 800 variants - will be dearer by
Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000 (ex-showroom) while Omni and Zen rates are
up marginally. Esteem prices are higher by Rs. 5,000 to Rs.
10,000 while in the case of Baleno, the increase is stiffer by
another Rs. 5,000. Some Wagon R and all Alto models will cost
more by Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 8,000.
