iSoft commences India operations

CHENNAI, JAN. 12. The U. K. based iSoft, a key supplier of
application systems for hospitals and healthcare organisations
today formally inaugurated its 5,600 sq. ft product development
centre in Chennai. The centre is an extension of the company's
global R&D headquarters in Manchester, England.
Addressing presspersons, Mr. Patrick Cryne, Chief Executive
Officer, iSoft group, said the new centre would form an integral
part of the company's multi million-dollar research and
development programme. As part of three year investment and
growth strategy, iSoft planned to make an initial investment of
$1 million and take it to $29 million in the third year, he said.
``The objective of investment in Chennai is to maintain an
innovative lead in iSoft's application system for healthcare, to
develop local expertise and to commit it to health system
development, to advance company's growth plans into Southeast
Asia and to establish as a centre of the company's product
development activities,'' he said. The Chennai centre is in
operation for the last two months.
The company's R & D offered its customers with the most advanced
software available in the health system market.
The centre was expected to produce software for distribution as
early as March 2001. iSoft was adopting Microsoft based
application systems and was the sole Microsoft SQL Server launch
partner in the U. K. healthcare, Mr. Cryne said.
Declaring open the centre, Mr. Digby Jones, Director-General of
the Confederation of British Industry and senior non-executive
director of iSoft said the IT business was globally mobile and
investment too was globally spread.
Mr. Ravan Boddu, Chief Executive of the Chennai product
development centre said the new Indian-based enterprise gave an
opportunity to build IT development with the U. K based
expertise.
The company, having listed on the London Stock Exchange, has a
track record of a consistent growth in turnover and profits.
