349 power pilferage cases detected

HYDERABAD, JAN. 13. Special teams of the AP Transco undertook
intensive inspection in parts of Hyderabad such as Barkhas,
Bhavaninagar, Yakutpura, Saidabad, Mir Alam, Charminar, Karwan,
Mangalhat and Dhoolpet, resulting in detection of several
theft/pilferage cases.
Similar exercise is being taken up for Golconda, Mehedipatnam,
Asifnagar and Musheerabad areas also by the teams led by Mr M. K.
Singh, Additional SP, Vigilance and Security, Andhra Pradesh
Central Power Distribution Company.
According to an APCPDC press note, 349 cases of pilferage were
detected in the southern circle under which all these areas come,
and the energy lost under these cases was worth Rs 15.70 lakhs.
With penality, the amount due will be Rs 47.11 lakhs. With regard
to 152 cases, consumers paid the initial amounts, all totalling
Rs 16.66 lakhs while 80 others remitted compounding fees
totalling Rs 6.12 lakhs. Nine persons were arrested and remanded
to judicial custody in this connection.
