Matching grant for diagnostic centre urged
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, JAN. 13. The Osmania Medical College Old Students
Association has requested the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu
Naidu, to release the matching grant, as promised by him, for Rs.
21 lakhs donated by the association for constructing an
additional floor on Quli Qutubshahi Diagnostic Centre in the
Osmania General Hospital, under the Janmabhoomi programme.
The association gave a cheque to the Chief Minister in November
1999 for construction of an additional floor for accommodating
nephrology, urology, dialysis, kidney transplant, plastic surgery
and micro vascular surgery wards units but no action has been
taken yet.
At a press conference here, several NRI doctors of the
association asked why the Government was not releasing its share
even after a year. They wanted to know what happened to the much-
publicised Janmabhoomi, the pet scheme of the Chief Minister
under which the Government sanctions 80 per cent of amount if 20
per cent was contributed for any development programme.
Dr. K. Venugopal and Dr. D. Tirupathi Rao (UK), Dr. K. Hemchandar
Rao (Australia) and Dr. Kalpalatha Guntapalli and Dr. Gattulal
Karwa (USA) - all alumni of the Osmania Medical College said the
Osmania Hospital was in a pathetic condition despite the services
of best of doctors available. They promised to extend monetary
and professional help so that the hospital would regain its lost
glory.
Prof. A. Gopal Kishan, president of the association said that
they donated nearly 1.5 crores in the last decade for taking up
developmental activities in the medical college as well as the
hospital.
