Six advocates, driver killed in road mishap

TUMKUR, JAN. 23. Seven persons were killed on the spot on Tuesday afternoon, when the Tata Sumo vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a lorry on Hanumanthapura Tank Bund, 27 km. from here, on National Highway 4.

Six of the victims were advocates. They, along with Mr. Ashroff Hussain, an industrialist, were reportedly on their way to buy a computer system for their office in Bangalore, when the accident occurred. The driver of the vehicle was also killed.

The Tata Sumo was torn into pieces following the collision that took place when it tried to overtake a vehicle. The bodies were recovered by police from the tank.

Five of the victims have been identified as Lokesh Gandhi, Maruti Prasad, C.B.James, D.S.Pravin Kumar and Krishna Murthy. The other victims are yet to be identified.

Mr. Hussain, who was injured, has been shifted to a hospital in Tumkur. The bodies were taken to Nelamangala for post-mortem. Mr. Javed Rahim, District Sessions and Principal Judge, visited the spot.
