Adobe to step up investments

NEW DELHI, JAN 23. Adobe Systems today announced its intention of
investing $50 million in the country over the next five years. In
the near future, the company intends investing $10 million in
expanding its R & D centre in Noida, on the capital's outskirts.
The Noida facility will be the new home to all Adobe employees.
The centre will continue to develop new and innovative
technologies for Adobe products in the date import/export, mobile
device and image and video compression areas. ``We are pleased
with Adobe's expanding presence in India and believe that our
increased investment in the region illustrates our commitment to
this part of the world,'' said Mr. Bruce Chizen, the visiting CEO
and President of Adobe.
Mr. Chizen is the fourth CEO of a world major in the IT sector
after Mr. Craig Barrett of Intel, Mr. Bill Gates of Microsoft and
Mr. John Chambers of Cisco to have visited India in the last one
year. Like his peers, Mr. Chizen also announced a major upgrade
in his company's India operations. Adobe builds software
solutions for network publishing including web, print, video,
wireless and broadband applications. Its graphic design, imaging,
dynamic media and authoring tools have been well received
worldwide.
Mr. Chizen pointed out that the Adobe campus in India intended
focussing on three main technology areas - data interchange
technology, portable document format on mobile devices and image
processing and understanding. The company has now about 90
engineers in India and plans to double that number in the coming
years. ``The current expansion plan underscores Adobe's
commitment to the India campus and is an affirmation of Adobe's
belief that world-class software products and innovative
technologies can be developed from India,'' pointed out the Adobe
India Managing Director, Mr. Naresh Gupta.
