Russia sends team

MOSCOW, JAN. 26. Russia has despatched a rescue team to India to
help rescue people trapped in the debris of collapsed buildings
in the devastating earthquake in Gujarat.
An IL-76 transport plane with 65 rescue workers, trained dogs and
equipment left here this evening and was expected to arrive in
Delhi around midnight on Friday. The group led by Major General
Pavel Plat included the famous high-risk Leader team, which
worked at quake sites in Russia and Turkey.
EU sending team
AFP reports from Brussels:
The European Union is sending a team of experts in humanitarian
aid to India following today's earthquake in Gujarat, European
commission spokesman, Mr. Jonathan Faull, said. The EU's External
Relations Commissioner, Mr. Chris Patten, who has been in India
this week, is following the situation, Mr. Faull told reporters.
