Governor commends Vision-2020 document

HYDERABAD, JAN. 26. The Governor, Dr.C.Rangarajan, in his
Republic Day address here on Friday described the `Vision-2020'
document as a road map for the future growth of the State, and
said achievement of the ambitious goals set by the document would
require hard work, commitment and improved efficiency in the use
of resources and stepped-up investment.
The enormity of the task to achieve the goals must not be
underestimated, he cautioned. Earlier, he hoisted the tricolour
and inspected the parade. Dr.Rangarajan said that in the context
of development one could note with satisfaction the progress made
by self-help movement in the State which was now attracting wide
attention at home and abroad. The Governor said large number of
groups like DWCRA had provided opportunities to lakhs of families
to participate in the process of development and produce goods
which were in demand. The Government's initiatives in the IT
sector were also praised by him.
Seeking improved farm practices, scientific crop pattern and
enlarged irrigation facilities, he said special efforts were
needed to reduce transmission, distribution and commercial losses
in the power sector while developing efficiency in power
management practices. Growth of IT-enabled services and emphasis
on education and health were important to realise the dream of
'Swarnandhrapradesh.'
He sought an accountable and transparent administrative system
that responded to the needs of people quickly and efficiently. A
dedicated Government and a vigilant public were needed to achieve
the results, he said.
The Governor was received by the Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrababu
Naidu, upon his arrival.
The ceremonial parade under the overall command and control of
Air Vice-Marshal A.R.Gandhi, Commandant of College of Air
Warfare, Secunderabad, was impressive and cheered upon by the
spectators, who included Cabinet Ministers, High Court Judges and
senior officials.
Among the contingents that took part were 13, Punjab Regiment, 5
Madras Regiment, AOC Centre, IAF, APSP, AP City Home Guards,
Senior Divisions of boys and girls, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides
and Tribal Scouts and Guides. The contingents were followed by
brass bands and pipe band.
The Governor was conducted to the saluting dais by Air Vice-
Marshal Gandhi.
The marchpast was followed by the floats of APCOB, AP Transco,
Civil Supplies, Education, Forest, Housing Corporation,
Irrigation and Command Area Development, Information and Public
Relations and others. The tourism float which reflected the
traditional and cultural values presenting an overall picture of
areas of tourist interest, the APCOB float depicting the benefits
given to farmers and the Small Savings float depicting the
importance of thrift programmes were adjudged the first, second
and third of merit respectively and awarded prizes.
Three Chetak helicopters showered petals on the dignitaries while
the show concluded with a flypast formation of Kiran aircraft.
