All is well between AIADMK, TMC: Moopanar
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, JAN. 26. As the TMC brought all the `secular' parties
together at a function to mark Republic Day and Pongal at party
headquarters here today, the party president, Mr. G. K. Moopanar,
indicated that all is well between the TMC and the AIADMK.
In his brief address to the gathering of leaders of various
political parties, Mr. Moopanar sought to dispel the impression
that the AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalitha, had boycotted
the TMC function. He stated that she had deputed her party
functionary, Mr. Dindigul Sreenivasan, to attend the function.
``There may be differences between us. But it is wrong to say she
boycotted. She has sent a reply to my invitation for the
function'', he said. The TMC vice-president, Mr. S. G.
Vinayagamurthy, read out Ms. Jayalalitha's letter, in which she
had explained her inability to attend the function due to
unavoidable circumstances.
The constituents of the secular front, including the TNCC(I)
president, Mr. E. V. K. S. Elangovan, the CPI State Secretary,
Mr. R. Nallakannu, CPI(M) leader, Mr. N. Vardarajan, the IUML
State leader, Mr. Khader Moideen, and the third front proponents
including the Janata Party president, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, the
Makkal Tamizh Desam Katchi president, Mr. S. Kannappan,
participated.
Earlier, in an informal chat with the media, Dr. Swamy said that
he had given up hopes of the TMC leading the proposed third front
in the State, as Mr. Moopanar's ``failure'' to respond to the
AIADMK's firm rejection of its power-sharing demand, indicated
that the TMC was aligning with the AIADMK.
