Fun and frolic for a fine cause
ON THURSDAY, a galaxy of stars from the tinsel world converged at
the Taj the Connemara Ball Room to party for a cause.
They joined the 200 guests gathered there for a
``funtertainment'' evening. The idea was noble - lend a helping
hand to Tanker Foundation, an NGO working with kidney patients
and making available dialysis to poor patients at subsidised
rates. They laughed when others laughed, clapped at performances
by guest artists, and took part in the various fun games.
The list of celebrities who attended the event had a mix of the
young and the old, the big and the small (in terms of screen).
Vineet made a brief appearance at the function in which actors
Surya, Chetan, Rajiv, Vijay Adhiraj and Sarita were also present.
The arrival of Meena and Radhika, although late, added extra fizz
to the spirit of the participants.
The fun began with a ventriloquist sending the audience into
peals of laughter. It was then the turn of the kids to go logo-
hunting on all fours. Thirty logos of the Foundation were hidden
all over the hall. The kids were to find and exchange them for
gifts.
For the grown ups, the game was a little different. They had to
break a puzzle and then find the object from inside the room. The
kids again reigned supreme at the elimination dance. Dinner and
cocktails rounded off the evening.
Dr. Ramdas, personal physician of the President of Seychelles and
a businessman, sponsored the event. The Lions Club of Madras Host
too chipped in.
The Tanker Foundation, being managed by Ms. Latha Kumaraswami
along with doctors and philanthropists, is running a dialysis
centre on Poonamallee High Road in Kilpauk where subsidised
dialysis is given to poor patients. The centre has launched a
scheme called `sponsor a dialysis' for raising funds.
