HPCL launches modified bitumen

MUMBAI: The public sector Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) has launched, ``HP Modified Bitumen''. According to a company release, the company will be using the modifier developed by Tinna Overseas which has a technical tie-up with American Gilsonite of the U.S. The Ministry of Transport had already issued guidelines to all the States to use 100 per cent modified bitumen in constructing National Highways.

Samsung's third B2B initiative

NEW DELHI: Korean major Samsung has launched its third B2B infotech initiative which will link dealers with the company's supply chain from February this year, since it is targeting 80 per cent of its business to happen over the Internet this year. Titled `Hellosamsung', the initiative would be live in the first week of next month, having a real time linkage with the company's internal systems, which means it would be back-to-back integrated with SAP, Mr. R. Chopra, head of information systems, Samsung India, said. It will facilitate online trading of products from the company with a provision for online checking of stock availability and dealers' credit limits.

HEC enters online education

NEW DELHI: Hughes Escort Communications (HEC), very small aperture terminal (VSAT) service provider, has announced its foray into online interactive education and application service provider (ASP) businesses as part of its expansion strategy. ``HEC in association with the U.S.-based One Touch system Inc. will introduce comprehensive turnkey interactive distance learning solutions for Indian students", Mr. Shashi Ullal, President and Managing Director said.

SAS strengthens India operations

CHENNAI: SAS India, business intelligence software solutions provider, has launched its southern operations with the opening of its Bangalore office. ``The opening of our Bangalore office is part of our nationwide strategy to become the defacto vendor for business intelligence solutions in India. We have already an impressive clientele in the South and we will now be able to consolidate our presence in this region,'' according to Mr. Gourish Hosangady, Managing Director, SAS India.

Apnaloan.com acquires two web sites

NEW DELHI: Online marketplace for credit cards, loans - Apnaloan.com - has announced acquisition of calciplus.com and Wealthfront.com. ``Apnaloan.com India acquired both websites by purchasing the intellectual property rights (IPRs)from Trivia Technologies Pvt Ltd", a company release said.

Roots gets global automotive certificate

NEW DELHI: TUV Rheinland, an authorised certification organisation, has given its first automation certificate in India to Roots Industries, a Coimbatore-based horn manufacturing company which is rated as the eleventh largest in the world in this segment. The company is now active in a large number of other areas.

Wipro opens office in Paris

BANGALORE: Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro, has opened its French office in Paris. With a strong presence in the U.K., Wipro had been working with leading companies like Transco, Thomas Cook, NTL, Thames Water and Nortel and in Scandinavia Wipro had executed several large projects with major telecom companies. Wipro's French customers include telecom equipment maker Alcatel and telecom company France Telecom, the release said.
