East-West Duleep tie shifted to Pune
MUMBAI, JAN. 27. The Duleep Trophy league match between West and
East Zones will be played at the Nehru Stadium, Pune, from
February 1 to 4. The shift in venue was necessitated because of a
cataclysmic earthquake in the State of Gujarat. The match was to
be staged by the Saurashtra Cricket Association in Rajkot.
The SCA was keen to stage this match, but the Board of Control
for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to change the venue after
Mumbai Cricket Association expressed its inability to stage the
match. ``I spoke to the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA)
officials and they have agreed to stage the match,'' said BCCI
Secretary Mr. Jaywant Lele.
In exactly a month's time, the MCA will stage the first Test
against Australia at the Wankhede and three weeks from now,
Cricket Club of India will stage the three-day game between
Australia and Mumbai at the Brabourne Stadium.
