Contempt notice to State Government
By Our Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JAN. 31. Mr. Justice J. Chalameswar of the A.P. High
Court has issued notice to the State of Andhra Pradesh
represented by the Chief Secretary in a contempt case. The case
is listed for February 19.
The notices were ordered in a case pertaining to the winding up
of the Government-owned company, A.P.Scooters. The court passed
winding-up orders in August 1994 and since then the statement on
the affairs had not been filed in the court in spite of several
reminders. The court had earlier directed the Secretary,
Industries, to appear in court in person on 25.1.2001.
The court did not take kindly to the affidavit filed on behalf of
the Government wherein the presence of the Secretary was sought
to be dispensed with.
Mr. Justice Chalameswar commented: ``Obviously, nobody is
interested in placing the material before the court or responding
to the orders of the court.'' The judge then ordered issuance of
the contempt notice.
