HYDERABAD, JAN. 31. The AP Transco has secured an aid of Rs.1,100
crores from the Japanese Study Group on Power Development for
India for improvement of distribution and transmission systems
covering different areas of the State.
An MoU to this effect was signed here on Wednesday by Mr. Hiroshi
Matsumura, chief representative of the Japanese Group, and Mr. P.
Ramakantha Reddy, AP Transco's CMD. Mr. V.S. Sampath, Energy

Rao, Mr. M. Gopalachary and Mr. T.R.C. Bose, its directors for
Finance, Transmission and Projects, were also present.
The signing followed an extensive study by the Group on the
technical and financial support required by AP Transco for the
system improvement. The aid covers power system improvement in
Hyderabad, laying of 400-kv transmission lines to evacuate power
expected from the NTPC's Simhadri Project (1,000 MW),
Visakhapatnam, the one coming up at Ramagundam (500 MW) and the
gas-based plants planned in the Godavari-Krishna basin (about
2,000 MW) and the scheme taken up to improve inter-State
distribution lines.
Mr. Ramakantha Reddy said the State ranked first in power sector
reforms which were in full swing with the objective of supplying
quality power. In the context of this goal, the present
assistance aimed at system improvement would be of immense use.
