Norwegian career portal opens Indian operations

CHENNAI, JAN. 31. The Norway-based StepStone ASA, the largest provider of online recruiting services in Europe, has launched its Indian operations through its 100 per cent subsidiary - StepStone India Pvt. Ltd.

Addressing presspersons here today, Mr. A. Sudhakar, Managing Director, StepStone India, said the company was a premier online provider of recruiting solutions, recruitment advertising and career services to individuals, education and training institutions and employers. ``Our mission is to provide customers with the best candidates through a long term professional relationship,'' he said.

Regarding the revenue model, Mr. Sudhakar said it would be through job listings, banners and company presentations for corporates in India and overseas. Besides, revenue would be derived through placement of Indian IT professionals for European clients.

The Indian subsidiary had already listed over 75 Indian firms engaged in telecommunications, software, insurance, media and FMCG on its India website - www.India.stepstone.com.

Headquarted in Chennai, StepStone India has opened offices in Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. It has plans to open offices in more centres. Recently it entered into advertising alliances with major national portals such as Yahoo!India, Hotmail, Caltiger.com, Rediff.com and Sify.com to widen its reach and distribiution.

Mr. Giles Clarke, CEO, StepStone ASA, who inaugurated the Indian operations, said this was the company's first foray outside Europe and in the Asia Pacific. Both Indian and European corporates could now access a pool of quality candidates in India, he said.

With presence in 17 countries in Europe, StepStone had a revenue of EUR 52.2 million (Rs. 230 crores) in the year 2000. It maintains a catalague of over 4.26 lakh CVs and more than 1.30 lakh employment opportunities are listed on its international website www.stepstone.com.
