Procter & Gamble's H1 net at Rs. 44.97 cr.

Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care has achieved a net profit of Rs. 26.43 crores in the quarter ended December 31, 2000 against Rs. 20.69 crores in the corresponding period in 1999- 2000. Net sales were Rs. 135.92 crores against Rs. 134.14 crores.

For the six months ended December 31, 2000, net sales were Rs. 256.01 crores against Rs. 253.43 crores. The profit before tax was Rs. 54.09 crores against Rs. 43.14 crores and the profit after tax Rs. 44.97 crores against Rs. 35.64 crores.

IMPAL

India Motor Parts and Accessories (IMPAL) has achieved a net profit of Rs. 1.39 crores on a turnover of Rs. 44.49 crores in the quarter ended December 31, 2000 against Rs. 1.50 crores and Rs. 47.38 crores in the corresponding period in 1999-2000.

After providing Rs. 9.73 lakhs (Rs. 9.27 lakhs) towards interest charges and Rs. 16.05 crores (Rs. 12.81 crores) for depreciation, the profit before tax is Rs. 2.36 crores against Rs. 2.45 crores. The provision for taxation is Rs. 96.56 lakhs (Rs. 94.24 lakhs).

For the nine months ended December 31, 2000, the turnover was Rs. 137.35 crores against Rs. 143.14 crores. The profit before tax was marginally higher at Rs. 7.76 crores agianst Rs. 7.45 crores and the profit after tax Rs. 4.76 crores against Rs. 4.58 crores.

Tube Investments

Tube Investments has performed well in the quarter ended December 31, 2000 and achieved a higher net profit of Rs. 7.37 crores against Rs. 6.12 crores in the corresponding period in 1999-2000.

Net sales were higher at Rs. 250.94 crores against Rs. 235.54 crores. After providing interest and depreciation, the profit before tax was higher at Rs. 8.37 crores against Rs. 7.74 crores.

For the nine months ended December 31, 2000, the net profit was Rs. 26.95 crores against Rs. 24.10 crores. Net sales were Rs. 830.03 crores against Rs. 693.42 crores in the corresponding nine months ended December 30, 2000.

Dr. Reddy's Lab

The consolidated turnover of Dr. Reddy's Laboratories and Cheminor Drugs (merged recently) for the first nine months ended December 31, 2000, have gone up to Rs. 627 crores and the net profit to Rs. 94.80 crores.

For the third quarter ended December 2000, sales went up to Rs. 214 crores and the net profit to Rs. 31.93 crores.

The two companies recently received approval from the Andhra Pradesh High Court for their merger effective from April 2000.

According to a press release, the board approved plans to incorporate a new company - Zenovus Biotech - to develop and commercialise a new technology platform in the biotechnology area. It plans to focus on the development of monoclonal antibodies, it said.
