INTACH to send team to Gujarat
NEW DELHI, JAN. 31. The Indian National Trust for Art and
Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is sending a four-member team of
experts to Gujarat to assess the damage to heritage properties
and assist authorities and agencies in the restoration effort.
The team will draw up plans for restoring heritage properties and
areas besides helping in other restoration works, a release from
the trust here today said.
It would be INTACH's endeavour to assist the rehabilitation
agencies to ensure that the essence of the cultural fabric was
maintained during any reconstruction activity, it said.
INTACH is also forwarding copies of recommendations made by an
internationally-renowned conservation expert Sir Bernard Feilden
on the dos and don'ts before, during and after an earthquake in
safeguarding heritage sites. Sir Bernard is scheduled to visit
India later this month, INTACH said adding it had decided to
organise a workshop here on strategies for disaster management,
especially for heritage properties.
