By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JAN. 31. The Chairman and Managing Director of the
HUDCO, Mr. V. Suresh, has begun a spot assessment of the extent
of damage to buildings in the quake-hit areas of Gujarat.
The HUDCO committed itself, at a meeting called by the Union
Urban Affairs Minister, Mr. Jagmohan, here on Monday, to
providing an assistance of about Rs. 1,000 crores to Rs. 1,500
crores to rebuild the infrastructure. The aid would be backed
with a technology package to ensure that the reconstructed
buildings were quake-proof, a HUDCO spokesperson said.
