Leather on the ramp

WHOEVER SAID beauty is only skin-deep might surely have been right if the International Leather Fashion Show at Taj Coromandel on Thursday was any example.

Pardon the detail, for the show was only a bird's eye view of the creative possibilities of the animal by-product. Bird's eye view, because that was all that met the eyes of mediapersons, who had to literally withstand confusion, chaos and commotion created by the back- benchers seated in front of them.

Here are different sound-bytes captured from those who actually saw the whole show from their seats. ``Hey, is that the Miss World girl? What's her name?''. ``Priyanka''.

``Haan, but why are they all dressed like Eskimos?'', ``No, this is international fashion, bhai. These are not clothes you can wear in Chennai''. ``Oh, look, look...See the kid in the dotted skirt no, soo cute''. ``But what are they doing on the ramp, fashion show or fancy dress competition?''. ``So what, ya. See how cute they are. Let's clap''.

Yes, they were children on the ramp. More than half a dozen of them, sporting leather shoes, doing a ``march-past to the school- assembly'' stroll along with someone who looked like Diya Mirza. Must have been her.

There were a dozen rounds in all. Enough rounds for the mediapersons to figure out at least some of the models who participated. Here's a list prepared after consensus: ``Priyanka Chopra and Diya Mirza (surely, for their names were announced in the climax when they sported Chennai-based designer Rehane's glittering gowns spiked with Swarovksis), Dino Morea, the new Miss Indias Celina, Sara and Maheshwari, Shvetha Jaishankar, Diya Abraham, Trisha...''

For the detail that's missing, you could probably check out the site that webcast the show live:
