Film Review: Aashiq
PUJA (KARISMA KAPOOR) is the daughter of rich parents who are
forever at loggerheads with each other. The affection-starved
girl falls in love with the tall, dark and handsome Chandu (Bobby
Deol). For a change, she woos him, hi-tech style... using a cell
phone. Chandu too falls in love with Puja. His father (Anupam
Kher) instantly accepts her as his `bahu'. Then follow songs shot
in lush locales of Europe and Australia.
Now will Puja's parents (played by Anjan `Mr. Wagle' Srivatsav
and Smita Jayakar) accept Chandu? No way. How can a girl from a
`unche khandan' (read very rich) marry an advocate's son? (if she
did, there would be no film at all!)
What about the villains? Oh yes, they appear just about the time
Puja's father plans to get her married to somebody else. This
time, the villains take the form of the mean and lean (read
muscled) Baba Rao (model Rahul Dev makes his debut) and his aide
Jai (Nasir Husain).
They kidnap Puja and try to `sell' her to a sheikh. Chandu is
blamed for it and the cops are after him, especially Mukesh
Rishi.
Well, that just about sums up Shweta International's ``Aashiq'',
directed by Indra Kumar and produced by Anil Sharma. The film has
no redeeming feature. The music generously borrows (or should one
say `is inspired'?) from the ``Godfather'' theme.
The acting? Less said the better. If Indra Kumar's earlier
``Mann'' was a failed attempt at ``An Affair To Remember'', then
``Aashiq'' is most definitely an affair to forget!
