Bihar IAS officers petition Governor
By Our Special Correspondent
PATNA, FEB. 10. The Bihar unit of the IAS Officers Association
today sought the Governor's intervention in connection with the
intimidation of a senior colleague by the Chief Minister's
younger brother last month and demanded action against the DGP of
the State also.
It submitted a memorandum to the Governor, Mr. V. C. Pandey,
bringing to his notice the turn of events right from the
intimidation of the Transport Secretary, Mr. N. K. Sinha, by Mr.
Anirudh Prasad alias Sadhu Yadav, brother of Chief Minister to
the manner in which the police let the latter off the hook by
offering him a bail.
The delegation, led by its president, Mr. Afzal Amanullah, called
on the Governor after the Chief Minister refused to grant them an
audience. The memorandum also accused the Chief Minister of not
taking action on Mr. Sinha's petition routed through the Chief
Secretary.
The association took exception to the manner in which the motor
vehicle enforcement inspector, Mr. Sitaram Paswan, whose transfer
Mr. Yadav had stayed at gun point, had rejoined duty at
Gopalganj. Mr. Sinha eventually filed a petition before the court
of the Chief Judicial Magistrate for justice.
Mr. Sinha terminated the services of Mr. Paswan, while his
colleagues displayed their solidarity by refusing to participate
in a seminar on administrative reforms.
The association has also underscored its reservation towards the
action of some police officials. Though the memorandum has not
named anyone, the reference is to the DGP and significantly
enough they have called for action against him by not only
removing him from his post but also for punishment. Interestingly
they have called for action against the DGP even as they
condemned the attempt to create an atmosphere of conflict between
the police and the civil administration.
The delegation maintained that the Governor gave them a patient
hearing and assured to look into their demands.
