Panther's carcass found in tribal village

By Our Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM, FEB. 17. The carcass of a panther with its four legs severed has been found in the woods of Panasalapadu, an inaccessible tribal village, in Gantyada mandal of Vizianagaram district.

A team of forest officials, led by the District Forest Officer, Mr. P.Subhas Chandra Bose, visited the place on Saturday and found the carcass in a decomposed state.

The eight-year-old panther's carcass, which is five feet long and about three feet high, might have been lying there for the last 10 days for the stench was unbearable even at a distance of 100 yards from the spot. The skin of the panther was intact. Mr. Bose did not suspect hunting as the carcass bore no external injuries. Whether the animal was poisoned or not would be clear when the report of post-mortem that was conducted at the place by a veterinary doctor in the afternoon was made available, he said.
