Withdraw Army, says Geelani

SRINAGAR, FEB. 21. The former chairman of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Mr. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will accept nothing short of ``Azadi'' (total independence).

At a condolence meeting at Sonawari in Baramulla today, Mr. Geelani said peace in the sub-continent was possible only when the Kashmir issue was resolved according to the wishes of the people of the State.

He demanded total withdrawal of security forces as people were being killed in ``fake encounters'', particularly by the Special Operation Group of the State Police.

The recent demonstrations against the Government and the security forces should serve as an eye opener for all those who claimed that people's support for the ``freedom struggle'' in Kashmir was waning, he said.
