New Chairman for Council likely in coming session

BANGALORE, FEB. 23. The election to the post of Chairman of the
Legislative Council, which fell vacant after the term of Mr. D.B.
Kalmankar ended, is likely to be held during the forthcoming
session of the Council commencing on February 26.
Speaking to presspersons here today, Mr. H.C. Rudrappa,
Secretary, Legislative Council, said the Government had been
apprised of the matter, and its response was awaited.
He said after the Governor, Ms. V.S. Rama Devi, addresses the
joint session of the Legislature on February 26, the Council
would meet. The newly elected member, Ms. Nirmala Venkatesh,
would take oath.
Giving details on the Bills which had received the assent of the
Governor and the President, and the Bills to be taken up in the
forthcoming session, Mr. Rudrappa said arrangements were being
made to extend the intercom facility, given to the MLAs, to the
members of the Council also at the Legislators' Home.
