Three Indians fall by way side
SINGAPORE, FEB. 23. Ace Indian golfers, Jeev Milkha Singh, Arjun
Atwal and Amandeep Johl made the cut, while three others
including Jyoti Randhawa, fell by the way side on the second day
of the $ 850,000 Caltex Masters golf here today.
Frankie Minoza (Philippines) fired 10 under par 61 to set a new
course record and top the Leaderboard at the halfway stage to
lead the tournament on 17 under par 125 by two strokes over
fancied Vijay Singh (Fiji).
Vijay returned a 63 as did Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng, who is
three strokes further back. Jeev carded his second successive
three under par 68 to aggregate six under 136 to move up to joint
23rd place from yesterday's 30th slot.
Interestingly Jeev's compatriot Arjun Atwal also fired his second
straight two under par 69 for a total of four under 138 and moved
up four slots to joint 41st.
Amandeep had the best card among the Indians. The Chandigarh-pro
shot four under 67 to total three under 139 (72, 67) and climbed
45 slots from Thursday's 105 to joint 60th today.
The cut was applied at three under 139 and 76 golfers qualified
for the money-making rounds. Despite a fine three under 68, Vivek
Bhandari failed to make the cut by one stroke. Bhandari who had
shot one over 72 yesterday and was at 105th with Amandeep moved
to joint 77th with a total of two under 140.
Jyoti Randhawa shot one over par 72 and ended at joint 86th with
a total of one under 141 (69, 72). Arjun Singh had a second
consecutive par 71 but that was not enough to see him through
with a total of par 142.
