One pushed to death
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, FEB. 25. A 52-year-old man who borrowed money with false
claims that he had won a cash prize in a German lottery was
murdered by a group who lent him cash, in T.Nagar on Friday.
According to police, Sriram of Purasawalkam borrowed money from
Murthy of Teynampet, Paramasivam and another Murthy from Andhra
Pradesh, claiming that he had won a prize in the foreign lottery
and required the cash for his visit abroad to collect the money.
Taken in by his claim, three persons gave him about Rs. 2 lakhs.
When the lenders started pestering him to repay the amount, he
was not able to do so. The debtors kidnapped Sriram and his
relative Prema and were locked up allegedly in the house of
Lakshmi, relative of Teynampet Murthy on Hindi Prachar Sabha
Road, T.Nagar.
On Friday night, Murthy left for his home in Andhra Pradesh along
with his friend Dr.Kumar, leaving Sriram in the custody of
Teynampet Murthy, Sivaraman and Lakshmi. Following a wordy duel,
Sriram was allegedly pushed from the third floor of the
apartment, where he was held hostage. He sustained severe
injuries and was admitted to a private hospital, where he died on
Saturday morning.
Teynampet Murthy, Lakshmi and Paramasivam were arrested on charge
of murdering Sriram. A special party had been sent to Andhra
Pradesh to nab Dr.Kumar and the other Murthy, the police said.
