Nest International corners glory

CHENNAI, FEB. 25. Nest International, represented by N. Niranjan, R.V. Subramaniam, G. Kamalakar Rao, R. Kannan, S.K. Chari and A.K. Narasimhan, won the sponsored team event defeating Ravas (Raju Tolani, Ashok Kulkarni, Vinay Desai, Anklesaria Keyzad and Sunil Choksi) in the final by 28.5 IMP (109.5 - 81). With this win, Nest International qualified to participate in the selection trials which start tomorrow.

Nest and Ravas qualified for the final having claimed the first two spots in the double Round Robin matches played earlier. While Nest remained at the top having 104 V.P., Ravas took the second spot with 101 V.P., Kalyani and Tabloidot Com made their exit finishing at 78 and 77 V.P. respectively.

The 42 board final match between Nest and Ravas was played in 3 sessions of 14 boards each.

Nest began with a carryover of 3.5 IMP for its better performance against Ravas in the Round Robin league. In the first session the score was 52-31 International Match Points in favour of Nest International. Nest scored 35 IMP in 3 boards. In board No.8, Kamalakara and Subramaniam reached a small slam, which at the other end was played in a game by Ravas. This brought 11 IMP to Nest. Nest got another 12 IMP in board No.10 in which it played a game. At the other end Ravas overshot and went down one. Board No.12 brought 12 IMP once again to Nest. At one end a game was played in 3 NT whereas at the other end it went down.

In the second session Nest added another 20 IMP (35- 15) aided by 26 IMP in just 2 boards at 13 IMP each. In one board Nest made a game in which Ravas went for a slam and went down. In the other boards just the reverse happened. Nest made a slam in which Ravas played only in a game. In the last segment Ravas made up 16 IMP (35-19) reducing the margin of difference to 28.5 IMP.
