The Week ahead

THE waxing new moon this week will give you plenty of energy to start new projects and embark upon new endeavours. There is a concentration of planets in air and fire signs, so be prepared to make quick decisions, act on your intuition, and react spontaneously. You'll have a chance to reconsider any "impulsive" decisions after April 6th. This is a time to leap first and look later.

Queries Answered

For a child born on March 31,1970 at 8 a.m. in Coimbatore, a computer-made horoscope shows Mercury (Budha) in Meena Rasi (Revathi 3rd Pada). However, No. 28 Pambu Panchangam indicates Mercury placed in Mesha Rasi (Aswini 1st Pada). Which is to be taken as correct - the Panchangam position or the computer's?

S. Ramanathan, Bangalore-24

ALMANACS and our Panchangas are apt to differ in showing positions, especially when the place charted is of a fairly fast- moving planet like Mercury. When the planet's movement is crossing a cusp (border-line between adjacent Zodiacal signs), differences of the kind you mention are not unusual. Panchangas cast by Drik method may show positions different from those shown in Vakya Panchangas such as in the No. 28 you cite. Computer programmes are based almost always on the Drik method. Our column too goes by Drik reckoning. Whatever system you choose to follow, go by it consistently.
