Festive time
SRI VIKRAMANAMA samvatsaram is out, Vrushanama is in. It's Ugadi
folks. And celebration time too.
There were sweets, sweets and more sweets. But the mere mention
of `Ugadi pacchadi' is sure to send children and elders scurrying
for cover. But wait. Without the tangy, salt `n' sour `pacchadi'
Ugadi can't be celebrated the way it should be.
The good times and the bad, the joys and the sorrows, the
laughter and the tears. Don't they all go together? And so are
the neem and the jaggery which dominate all the other ingredients
in that concoction of the Telugu New Year.
As far as the official celebrations, it was business as usual.
The Ravindra Bharathi was decked up in all its splendour. The
Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, his Cabinet colleagues and
the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Pratibha Bharathi,
wished one another.
People visited their relatives to convey Ugadi greetings and
movie buffs made a dash to theatres to watch their heroes in
action. ETV, Gemini and Teja channels had special programmes.
A two-hour interview with megastar Chiranjeevi was a top notch,
while the number one heroine Soundarya, top hero Srikkanth and a
host of comedians too flitted in and out wishing viewers.
