Hungama at Hussainsagar

THE DISTANT drone of a helicopter pierced the air. Then, the flying contraption loomed above the place, the rotors whirring furiously and kicking up plumes of dust along the Necklace Road and enough ripples in the Hussainsagar lake. And then, the showers began.

Colourful papers and confetti streamed down the sky in a torrent. And what were they all about? They were greetings and more greetings from AirTel stable wishing the Telugus a prosperous New Year on the occasion of Ugadi. Living up to their slogan, they were `touching tomorrow'.

Titled `Magic Fungama', there was magic all over the place at the event organised by Bharti Mobile Limited. Literally, Magic being a popular prepaid cellular card service. "The idea was to enable people check out all the Magic services on offer not to forget everything about cellular phones, from accessories to spares and what not," the event manager of the show, Rakhi Kankaria of Rachnotsav, explained.

It wasn't business alone, there was loads of fun and yes, several magical moments too. A high voltage laser show and a live performance by Indipop crooner, Shail, had the large weekend crowd in raptures. There were fire eaters, jugglers, magicians, mimicry and pantomime artistes, stilt walkers walking tall and a plethora of games for the kids.

What more, there were prepaid Magic cards and watches up for grabs for those who were game for some probing questions.
