dated March 27, 1951: Kashmir issue in U.N.
Prime Minister Nehru, strongly deprecated the recent attitude
taken by the United Kingdom and USA representatives at the
Security Council on the pending Kashmir problem and said that
their speeches on this issue were definitely against the prestige
of India.
The Prime Minister, who was addressing a mammoth public meeting
in Agra on March 25, at the Ramilila grounds, observed: ``The
Kashmir question is pending before the U.N. and I would not
dilate much on it as it is still subjudice, but I am amazed at
the two resolutions jointly presented by the U.K. and the USA
representatives for the solution of the Kashmir problem. Even the
amended resolution is not without its faults. I feel that the
U.K. and the USA representatives either do not understand the
Kashmir problem or knowingly misrepresent it.''
Continuing, Mr. Nehru said: ``The world is passing through the
ever-growing fear of war. No one knows the after-effects or the
result of the Korean War. In such a critical stage of the world
affairs, we have to be vigilant in our acts and duties towards
our country...''
`New' Shaw book for India
A characteristic legacy from George Bernard Shaw might come to
India, when the terms of his will were carried out. It would take
the form of a translation into Shaw's ``New English Alphabet'' of
his play ``Androcles and the Lion.''
In 1940 Shaw had told Globe that, if India adopted English as her
national language, she should spell it in `his' alphabet. He
preferred `India' to `Bharat' because it was one letter shorter.
