The above maxims, given in the preface, clearly exhibit the book's purpose and the author's dogged determination for achieving success in life. Successful persons like him have always followed certain principles and methods for achieving the heights of life. He has proved that there is no substitute for hard work.

This book is a product of personal experience, introspection, thinking and some difficult situations faced by him from time to time.

He has been influenced by the words of wisdom, guidance, thoughts and inspirations of the great masters of the past and present, which have stood him in good stead during several vicissitudes in life. His conviction is that a defeat is only a stepping stone to success. Any reader of this book will find it a source of great self-confidence and develop courage to face any problem and difficulty.

In life all of us try to achieve excellence and reach the top in any profession we undertake. By his life he has proved that an important input for success in life is never to think small and give room for failure. According to him the rule of success is to think big and organise oneself for big achievements.

The achievement motive is the moving force. Success also depends on using the right word at the right time. It is an art to talk gracefully, tactfully and wisely always. This book seeks to cover all aspects of achieving success in life.

Mr. Joginder Singh retired from Indian Police Service after over 36 years of distinguished service, from the Karnataka cadre. He rose to the post of Director, CBI, one of the top positions in the government. He became known nation-wide as a crusader against corruption in high places.

He is the recipient of two of the highest police medals, Indian Police Medal for meritorious service and Indian Police Medal for distinguished service.

He had very many interesting assignments in different branches of government service. He has led a number of delegations abroad to various countries in the West and the East. He was elected to the Executive Committee of the Interpol in 1996, in which he served with distinction.

This book, written in chaste English, will be a source of great inspiration and instill courage in the youth and make them strive for their best to succeed. The book is very commendable.
